Are you searching for tinnitus relief? Do you have ringing, buzzing, or whistling in your ears? Do you lay down at night and suddenly hear a humming sound? If so, you may be one of 50 million Americans experiencing tinnitus. The sounds you are hearing are actually not coming from your ears at all. They are coming from your brain!
Causes of Tinnitus
There are over 200 potential causes of tinnitus, but what it boils down to is something wrong within the auditory system. Most commonly, tinnitus is attributed to a sensorineural hearing loss, or a hearing loss resulting from damage to the hair cells in the inner ear. When we have hearing loss, our brains are not getting the level of auditory stimulation they crave. They can start to make up their own noises to fill in the gaps. Those noises are the resulting tinnitus! Other causes include acute stress, caffeine intake, various prescription and over-the-counter medications, and disordered sleep.
Types of Tinnitus
Tinnitus comes in a variety of forms. Some people may hear ringing while others might experience buzzing, whistling, whirring, rustling, ocean waves, or even crickets! Tinnitus can be constant, or it can come and go. Some individuals experience tinnitus all day long while others only experience it at night or in a quiet room. However you experience your tinnitus, it is important to discuss your symptoms with your hearing care professional.
Tinnitus Relief
While there is no “cure” for tinnitus at this time, there are certainly things that can give you some tinnitus relief and can help to reduce your tinnitus. Using a fan or a white noise maker while you are in a quiet room can help mask the tinnitus and keep you from focusing on it. Lifestyle changes such as exercising and reducing caffeine intake may also have a positive impact on tinnitus. Did you know that many hearing aids have tinnitus maskers built in to help reduce the tinnitus while also correcting your hearing? In fact, many patients report a significant reduction of their tinnitus simply by wearing their prescribed hearing aids. Contact your hearing care professionals at Levine Hearing so we can help you come up with a treatment plan that best meets your specific needs.

“It was in my undergraduate years that I realized my passion for bringing the gift of sound to those who felt isolated and without hope. It is my philosophy that each patient leaves every appointment feeling as though they have a better understanding of the problem we are tackling together, and they have hope for positive outcomes.” – Eileen Clark, Audiologist
I too suffered from tinnitus for years and I agree that wearing the right hearing aids helps. I seldom suffer from it today. I had my hearing aids fitted at Levine Hearing and not only has my hearing vastly improved, so that I fare much better in a social setting. I seldom have to ask someone to repeat what they had just said. Thanks to Madison and her wonderful team. 😊
I’m so glad that you have seen benefit, Yvonne! Thank you for sharing 🙂
Good advice! Hope to get into the office soon for a tune-up.
Great, Larry. We will look forward to seeing you soon!
For years, my family and talked about the “cricket noise we heard”. After getting my hearing aides a couple of years ago from
Levine , I don’t even notice crickets and according to my friends and family, my hearing is much better. I realized Doordash is not Jordash as I first thought. So my hearing is not perfect, but sooo much better. I especially love being able to change the mode to hear more efficiently in groups with the restaurant mode. The difference is unbelievable.
Hey Sandy! I’m so glad you are doing well. A lot of people genuinely think the “cricket” noises are real for quite awhile before someone alerts them otherwise. Thanks for taking the time to share!
I love Levine Hearing, I had slight tinnitus not really bad just enough to aggravate me sometimes, not anymore got the right fit hearing-aid the right settings from the right place!!!!
Thank you for sharing, Michieul. We are so happy to get to help you!

Irv, thank you so much for sharing your experience. What a fantastic result! We are so happy for you 🙂
Madison, I enjoy you emails with short articles of information. Yes I will agree that wearing hearing aids help you not to notice the ringing as bad! You certainly have a nice group of beautiful ladies and you all make appointments enjoyable! I still tell people who need aid about your great office!
I’m so glad that you are finding them interesting, Alice! Yes, many people find that just wearing their hearing aids can reduce the tinnitus. One reason is because we are simply raising the volume of the normal ambient noises around you, which basically “mask” the tinnitus so you can’t hear it as much. We love seeing you in the office!
Thanks Madison for all the good tips and information
Hey Joe, I’m glad you found it helpful! I hope to see you soon!
